Immoral Earning?

What in the world is happening to professional sport? When I was a kid, it cost 5 $ to get a decent seat at the stadium, and my dad would buy me a hot dog and himself a beer which would cost bring the total cost of about 10 $.

Last Saturday I took my little boy to see the Giants play. After the parking, tickets, refreshments and souvenirs, I walked out of there with 75 $ less in my pocket. Just ask me how soon I will be going back!

But it got me thinking: why am I paying so much to watch a group of men throw a ball around? And then I realized: I was paying Billy Slater’s Salary: 35,000 $ a year. And Matt Jerrod’s salary: 500,000 $ a year. Oh, and how could I forget Sal Ibarra’s new contract – 3 million $ over the next three years.

Where is perspective here? What are our priorities as a society? There are 35,000 homeless in around the world who don’t have a roof over their heads, clothes to keep them warm or food to fill their stomach. And we are paying these men 6- and 7- figure salaries to keep ourselves entertained! Something has gone wrong.

What do you say? Do you basically agree with the man or does he have an old-fashioned, nostalgic opinion about sport?

  2. It's pity that we pay money to watch some match where a big adults run after a little ball. People should think about it, what is the point going to stadium and watch some match. We can do it at home. We ought to help homeless people who really need money.

Anyway people who have money go to stadium, but I really want that they think about people in poverty.

  3. I think this man is thinking in a right way! Not go far! I recently saw a television programm about a futballplayer! I don't exactly remember his name. he was one of the best footballplayers in Russian. But then he took a injure and after that nobody needs him. Nobody helped him even the futball federation. this world is so cruel and unfair!

  4. You know it is something like a pop music industry in Uzbekistan. We often say and complain that our singers get paid too much by giving concerts and going to the local weddings. But who is paying them? WE!!!! Reason why they ask too much to come to your wedding is that there are simply too many people calling them everyday and trying to book them to sing in their weddings. So in order to control the situation and not get overworked, they raise their rates.

And it is almost the same things with football players. They know that we are crazy about their game and we are ready to pay any amount of money just to watch how they play.

    But hey wait?. Think guys!!!!

  6. Some facts about our Football. Our football becoming boring and not much fans go to stadium to watch match. They prefer to watch on TV.

Wedding, singers... Who has much money that invite popular singers. But nowadays it is too expensive to invite different singers, so we have unique singers who can sing songs of famous singers. And they are not so expensive to invite. :-))))))

  7. actually i disagree with this person because he compares past times with present!Did he take account of inflation? Prices can grow up by every month.does he know that the definated part of moneys coming from sport pompetitions goes as a charity for por people?

  8. But football players and singers work hard to earn money. Yes they earn much but they work. And they have a talant and we pay them to see how they play or heard how they sing because not everybody can do it like them.
    :-))))

  9. Bravo Guriy, we pay them because not everbody can sing or play like them.

Utkir are you sure that money that comes from football matches go into charity? Then I wonder why poor people are still very poor but football players get richer and richer.

  11. If you work hard you will never be poor!charity does not mean that you support poor humanity! In this case famous people just help them. I think people can escape from poor situation only by own tryings, otherwise they will continue to be with out job and money
