I would like to introduce you Sarvar who was one of my students at Preparation courses, WIUT. When I taught him English about 2 years ago, he was in Pre-Intermediate group. Recently he has taken an IELTS exam at British Council in Tashkent and got IELTS score he wanted and worked hard for. When he sent me sms to share his joy and happiness I quickly contacted him and asked whether he could be available on our blog to share with us how he prepared for such a good success and introduce us to his study habits, strategies and etc.

Actually ,when I left WIUT ,I did not really prep for IELTS exam since I was not sure whether I should take IELTS or not. However ,I was still watching American movies and listening to some BBC news. Later on,I registered for IELTS test and month before the exam I had taken private tutor as I was really suck in writing.

ReplyDeleteAs I have already mentioned ,I listened to BBC radio and I just was lucky that I had a friend who helped me with many other stuffs.
To Doston. Not really sure that I see difference between these kind of books but I would prefer to have a practice book with the whole explanations.

ReplyDeleteSarvar in writing what we should use pen or pencil. If we use pencil and make mistake can we use rubber.
ReplyDeleteHi Madina,I would say that the most difficult part is writing since you can not be sure whether your work is complete or not. I have many friends who expected to get at least 7 in writing section but unfortunately they could not.it doesn mean that they are not capable of getting 7,just topic was very obscure.

Yes,we can use a pencil and I did so =) cuz when you check your work you may find mistakes which are better be corrected =)
Sarvar who was your teacher when you have been taught in Pre-Intermediate level.
ReplyDeleteMy teacher was Mr.Akmal =) I did not even feel that I was in Pre-Intermediate as Mr.Akmal made us work very hard =) So you are lucky if Mr.Akmal your teacher =)

I got 6,5 from writing , however I am happy with such result =) Actually, I did not prepare myself. I felt that I really suck in writing so I had to find kinda good teacher. I realized at that moment that I had heard about teacher from WIUT(Valentin). I think Mr.Akmal know him very good =) Mr.Valentin showed the main tips of writing... Unfortunately,we did not have enough time to practice other stuffs =( but i would have been very happy ...

ReplyDeleteWell concerning your question about luck, I would like to mention that luck is obviously one of the crucial points (sometimes) in your good-score-hit. But from my personal experience you better work hard and plan to reach the moon, at least if your luck doesn't work, you will hit the stars. =)
Hopefully you get my point.
So Sarvar seems like you did not prepare for IELTS for 2-3 months and you did not a lot of in-depth and serious preparation but you got IELTS-7. Do you think your LUCK or your KNOWLEDGE of English and IELTS got you score-7 eventually?

Sarvar you told us that you just used to watch movies and BBC radio. It means you did not do any special preparation. How it is possible to get 7 if you didn't do any special preparation.
ReplyDeleteI studied month but the way I did it could be compared with eternity) There was not night when I did not practice an essay or did not do any kind of reading. I would say I was lucky cuz the speaking and listening seemed quite easy for me =) The practice which is not related to IELTS also really helped me.it includes BBC,chatting with friend etc...

Doston I do believe that if person has high IELTS score it does not really mean that he/she knows English at that level. IELTS is not about WHAT but it is about HOW. You don't really need to know English at that high level if you know the tips and strategies very well.
ReplyDeleteThen I think for myself why in the world IELTS was created if it is possible to get around its system. I also don't understand why they write and publish books that teache students how to cope with IELTS tasks. In other words how to cheat in IELTS exam. Maybe I am not very experienced in this field guys. :--((((
No Guys I am not bored at all. I just don't want the people who will visit our blog to say ''Hey man this, Akmal is talking all the time and he is talking to himself". For example, I finished my work at 7:30 pm today and since then I have been online reading on blog, fixing some services and stuff like that. Now there are no buses outside and I will have to catch a taxi which will charge me about 3500 soums to drive me to my house. It is my 3rd day that I going home so late because of blogging guys. But I love it all.

What exactly should I tell you about IELTS?I mean what do you want to know? cuz your question is little bit obscure.=( Please guys remeber that I am not a teacher I just can tell you how I got such scores but I am not able to give you kind of very very useful advise =)))

ReplyDeleteFarruh as regards to the parts of IELTS you can open any IELTS book and look at the 2-3 pages and that will or should tell you everything. You can also try to visit any of IELTS sites uploaded under My Favorite Sites section on our blog. :--)))

My friend's level?? mmmm,how to say,he just knows English ,thats it=) The topic was about whether we should limited the number of car or aircraft and one trip of aircraft takes as much fuels as car uses one year.

To Mr.Akmal: Yes,of course! but it takes long time therefore students usually prepare with private tutors as they dont have much time for IELTS.=)they want everything fast and suffer of this.

ReplyDeleteHi Irina! Ow,he asked about English,how difficult its for me. in part 2 he asked about park.kinda park which I visited and still remember. I should have said why I remember this park.=) In part 3 he asked me to tell him about some green places in Uzbekistan =) Finally I got 7,5. =)
To Doston. STill I would advise watch English movies(not American),listen to BBC +)its very useful cuz you will enhance not only ur English but also receive some knowledge in history area. Try to read any English news papers which you can get from BC(Uzbekistan).
AHMAD: Sarvar my English vocabulary isn`t very good.Can you tell us how did you improve your vocabulary and what should we do to improve our vocabulary?
ReplyDeleteTo Ahamd; Read as many books as you can =) you shouldnt learn the words one buy one how people did in USSR ,just read the books and try to understand what these book are about =)
ReplyDeleteAs I was quickly reading some of your comments I just remembered how I had gone through this exam process. In my opinion, a person should listen to what other people suggest, yet try to find his/her own way of preparing. Of course, there are some general tendencies in terms of preparation, which are based on types of learners.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking about why IELTS has ever been created if one can get around the system, I think that today education has become a very popular commodity. US and Europe have been dominant for the past decades offering their education systems, thus making a lot of money. IELTS is not an exception. It is just another tool which helps people know their approximate level of the world #1 language, at the same time, it is the source of income to the country.
They develop tests and they also try to provide everything that a student might need to successfully sit the test. Thus they make money from both the test administration and the published materials.
If one develops a test which is very difficult to pass sooner or later it will be out of market.
Most of you know that computer viruses are developed by the same IT professionals who develop anti virus programs; basically,IELTS and many other tests are similar in terms of a test and a key to it.

ReplyDeleteWell if you are not lazy you can study yourself it is not so difficult. If you are lazy it is better get tutor. You can practice with Cambridge IELTS 1,2,3,4... These books really good and tests have taken from real test.
