Don't Panic! You'll Get What You Want From IELTS.

I would like to introduce you Sarvar who was one of my students at Preparation courses, WIUT. When I taught him English about 2 years ago, he was in Pre-Intermediate group. Recently he has taken an IELTS exam at British Council in Tashkent and got IELTS score he wanted and worked hard for. When he sent me sms to share his joy and happiness I quickly contacted him and asked whether he could be available on our blog to share with us how he prepared for such a good success and introduce us to his study habits, strategies and etc.

Please feel free to ask any questions related to IELTS and IELTS preparation and Sarvar will be more than happy to help you through. Have a nice discussion!!! Note: I did not prepare him for IELTS exam. :--)))

  2. Back to Sarvar, first of all thank you very much for your desire and courage to give an interview on our blog on your IELTS success!!!!

So here is my 1st question. Did you study English and IELTS yourself or with Private Tutor when you finished our WIUT preparation course?

  3. Good Day to everyone.
Sayig about your note "I did not prepare him for IELTS exam. :--))) ",I would like to add, even though that I was in the Pre-Intermediate level ,the knowledge which was given by you was very useful for me, even at IELTS test=)
Actually ,when I left WIUT ,I did not really prep for IELTS exam since I was not sure whether I should take IELTS or not. However ,I was still watching American movies and listening to some BBC news. Later on,I registered for IELTS test and month before the exam I had taken private tutor as I was really suck in writing.

  4. Hi Sarvar
I'm glad to chat with you, I wonder if you tell me what is the best way to prepare for IELTS
    =))))

    ReplyDelete
  5. Hi Doston, unfortunately I can not tell you what the best way is as I do not know myself=) Still, depends on who you are...

    ReplyDelete
  6. Did you finish Intermediate and Upper-Intermedaite English course-book in order to 'prepare' for IELTS? How do you think you got IELTS 7? What was the biggest push or factor that lead you to getting score-7?

    ReplyDelete
  7. What book do you think useful for us and is it good to listen anything in English even we don't understand?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Also I wanna ask is it better to use practice book or exercise book? Which is better? =))))))))

    ReplyDelete
  9. Honestly, I did not finish any of these books Mr.Akmal=( It seemed like that in the Pre-Intermediate I got everything in advance =)
As I have already mentioned ,I listened to BBC radio and I just was lucky that I had a friend who helped me with many other stuffs.
To Doston. Not really sure that I see difference between these kind of books but I would prefer to have a practice book with the whole explanations.

  10. Hello Sarvar! My name is Madina. I have some questions. What type of exam was easier for you? Writing, speaking or others?

    ReplyDelete
  11. For example for me Listening is the most challenging!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Sarvar in writing what we should use pen or pencil. If we use pencil and make mistake can we use rubber.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hi Madina,I would say that the most difficult part is writing since you can not be sure whether your work is complete or not. I have many friends who expected to get at least 7 in writing section but unfortunately they could not.it doesn mean that they are not capable of getting 7,just topic was very obscure.
So,listening is not so difficult as it depends on practice =)
Yes,we can use a pencil and I did so =) cuz when you check your work you may find mistakes which are better be corrected =)

  14. Sarvar who was your teacher when you have been taught in Pre-Intermediate level.

    ReplyDelete
  15. My teacher was Mr.Akmal =) I did not even feel that I was in Pre-Intermediate as Mr.Akmal made us work very hard =) So you are lucky if Mr.Akmal your teacher =)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sarvar what score did you get for your IELTS Writing? How did you prepare for writing task-1 and 2?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am really amazed that knowledge you got at Pre-Interm. course was so instrumental in your IELTS prepartion. To be honest, I have never prepared anyone for IELTS exam so far. But I will be doing it from September, I guess. :--)))

    ReplyDelete
  18. Mr.Akmal you also teach students for IELTS, I mean you are preparing them?

Sarvar did you finish pre-intermediate course in WIUT? What do you think IELTS depends on luck also or not?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I got 6,5 from writing , however I am happy with such result =) Actually, I did not prepare myself. I felt that I really suck in writing so I had to find kinda good teacher. I realized at that moment that I had heard about teacher from WIUT(Valentin). I think Mr.Akmal know him very good =) Mr.Valentin showed the main tips of writing... Unfortunately,we did not have enough time to practice other stuffs =( but i would have been very happy ...
    Yes,I finished the pre-intermediate =) I have even a certificate =)))))))

  20. Doston,
Well concerning your question about luck, I would like to mention that luck is obviously one of the crucial points (sometimes) in your good-score-hit. But from my personal experience you better work hard and plan to reach the moon, at least if your luck doesn't work, you will hit the stars. =)
    Hopefully you get my point.

    ReplyDelete
  21. So Sarvar seems like you did not prepare for IELTS for 2-3 months and you did not a lot of in-depth and serious preparation but you got IELTS-7. Do you think your LUCK or your KNOWLEDGE of English and IELTS got you score-7 eventually?

Do you think that your knowledge of English is at IELTS-7 level??? :--))))

    ReplyDelete
  22. Sarvar you told us that you just used to watch movies and BBC radio. It means you did not do any special preparation. How it is possible to get 7 if you didn't do any special preparation.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I studied month but the way I did it could be compared with eternity) There was not night when I did not practice an essay or did not do any kind of reading. I would say I was lucky cuz the speaking and listening seemed quite easy for me =) The practice which is not related to IELTS also really helped me.it includes BBC,chatting with friend etc...
P.S. My friend has never seen the IELTS book and got 8=)I think student should not study the IELTS book as kinda robot,we have to improvise sometimes.

  24. Hey guys when I checked our blog today at about 5 pm there were 20 comments for Sarvar's interview. Please note that I have not deleted any of your comments. Let's see!!! If you are having any troubles on our blog please let me know. :--((((

    ReplyDelete
  25. Guys are you also having problems on our blog???

    ReplyDelete
  26. ok we will tell you

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sarvar you know very strange your friend has never seen IELTS book and got 8. I'm shocked... :()()()

In brief we should improve our English not learn how to pass exam isn't it. And when you watch movies do u watch them with subtitles or without.
And if you mind telling us what kind of books did u use?

Akmal aka what problems are you talking about? There is only one problem not so many visitors here

    ReplyDelete
  28. To Akmal aka
I think you also bored here because you don't leave so many comments. What's wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Doston I do believe that if person has high IELTS score it does not really mean that he/she knows English at that level. IELTS is not about WHAT but it is about HOW. You don't really need to know English at that high level if you know the tips and strategies very well.

Then I think for myself why in the world IELTS was created if it is possible to get around its system. I also don't understand why they write and publish books that teache students how to cope with IELTS tasks. In other words how to cheat in IELTS exam. Maybe I am not very experienced in this field guys. :--((((

    ReplyDelete
  30. No Guys I am not bored at all. I just don't want the people who will visit our blog to say ''Hey man this, Akmal is talking all the time and he is talking to himself". For example, I finished my work at 7:30 pm today and since then I have been online reading on blog, fixing some services and stuff like that. Now there are no buses outside and I will have to catch a taxi which will charge me about 3500 soums to drive me to my house. It is my 3rd day that I going home so late because of blogging guys. But I love it all.

  31. I've been prepearing for IELTS about 2 years ago xD . Now I have no idea what's test like , I registered on 5th of June so I dont have much time . Sarvar could you tell me about all parts of test ? ( speaking , readin and so on)

    thank you :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. To Farruh: Sorry, but I dont really get your question. What exactly should I tell you about IELTS?I mean what do you want to know? cuz your question is little bit obscure.=( Please guys remeber that I am not a teacher I just can tell you how I got such scores but I am not able to give you kind of very very useful advise =)))

    ReplyDelete
  33. To Doston and Mr.Akmal: Mr.Akmal said that IELTS is about knowing the tips and strategies very well however I totally disagree with such opinion since as I have already mentioned ,my friend got 8 =) and he did not really prepare for IELTS he just used the knowledge he knew=) you cant get even 6 in reading just by knowing scanning and other stuffs =)Right????

    ReplyDelete
  34. THANK you for your answer, Sarvar!
But what was your friend's level?
and if it's not a secret what was the theme of your writing task( the 1 and 2 tasks)?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hello Sarvar. My name is Ahmad. I`ve question to you. Where do you study and how do you usually spend your free time? Can you give some advices about spending free times?Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Farruh as regards to the parts of IELTS you can open any IELTS book and look at the 2-3 pages and that will or should tell you everything. You can also try to visit any of IELTS sites uploaded under My Favorite Sites section on our blog. :--)))

    ReplyDelete
  37. So Sarvar you are saying that if student's knowledge of English is like strong Interm. or Upper-Interm. he/she can get IELTS-6.5, 7 and even 7.5 without any serious preparation with a private tutor or attending any IELTS courses?? :--)))

Just work on your Eng. very hard and improve your Speaking, Reading, Writing and Listening skills and that's it? :--)))

    ReplyDelete
  38. My friend's level?? mmmm, how to say,he just knows English ,thats it=) The topic was about whether we should limited the number of car or aircraft and one trip of aircraft takes as much fuels as car uses one year.
I had a pie chart in task one =) It was about study. What student do after leaving the schools.

Hi Ahmad. I dont study actually =) Unfortunately,I cant give any advise about spare time =( Cuz every person is unique ...

To Mr.Akmal: Yes,of course! but it takes long time therefore students usually prepare with private tutors as they dont have much time for IELTS.=)they want everything fast and suffer of this.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Okay Sarvar, in brief for all students give advice or tell us what did you do in
    LISTENING, READING, WRITING, SPEAKING.

    ReplyDelete
  43. One more question to you Sarvar, do you think it is possible to get nine. And will you try to get this score? Why?

    ReplyDelete
  44. HI Renata, thankzzz =) mmm, honestly i cant even suppose what the topic is going to be about, sorry =))

Hi Irina! Ow,he asked about English, how difficult its for me. in part 2 he asked about park.kinda park which I visited and still remember. I should have said why I remember this park.=) In part 3 he asked me to tell him about some green places in Uzbekistan =) Finally I got 7,5. =)

To Doston. STill I would advise watch English movies(not American),listen to BBC +)its very useful cuz you will enhance not only ur English but also receive some knowledge in history area. Try to read any English news papers which you can get from BC(Uzbekistan).

    ReplyDelete
  45. AHMAD: Sarvar my English vocabulary isn`t very good. Can you tell us how did you improve your vocabulary and what should we do to improve our vocabulary?

    ReplyDelete
  46. To Ahamd; Read as many books as you can =) you shouldnt learn the words one buy one how people did in USSR ,just read the books and try to understand what these book are about =)

    ReplyDelete
  47. As I was quickly reading some of your comments I just remembered how I had gone through this exam process. In my opinion, a person should listen to what other people suggest, yet try to find his/her own way of preparing. Of course, there are some general tendencies in terms of preparation, which are based on types of learners.

Speaking about why IELTS has ever been created if one can get around the system, I think that today education has become a very popular commodity. US and Europe have been dominant for the past decades offering their education systems, thus making a lot of money. IELTS is not an exception. It is just another tool which helps people know their approximate level of the world #1 language, at the same time, it is the source of income to the country.
They develop tests and they also try to provide everything that a student might need to successfully sit the test. Thus they make money from both the test administration and the published materials.
If one develops a test which is very difficult to pass sooner or later it will be out of market.

Most of you know that computer viruses are developed by the same IT professionals who develop anti virus programs; basically,IELTS and many other tests are similar in terms of a test and a key to it.

  48. Dear All!!! What is your best IELTS preparation book? (Self study or Group teaching)

(the easiest book to teach and the easiest to understand)

    ReplyDelete
  49. To Azimjon
Well if you are not lazy you can study yourself it is not so difficult. If you are lazy it is better get tutor. You can practice with Cambridge IELTS 1,2,3,4... These books really good and tests have taken from real test.
